Prince Charles, she was 20 years old when they married. Prior to their marriage, Diana had been a kindergarten teacher. She became heavily involved in charitable work, worked tirelessly for concerns related to
AIDS, and was a fierce opponent of the use of
land mines. In 1996, Diana and Charles divorced after a four-year separation. The following year she and her companion,
Dodi Fayed, were killed in a high-speed auto accident. Driver
Henri Paul was also killed in the crash.
