The About Group's flagship About.com offers a network of topic-specific Web sites grouped into channels such as arts, hobbies, shopping, and sports on more than 70,000 topics. The site features content (some 2 million pieces) created by 770 human guides, or "topical advisors" -- which About describes as the "heart and soul" of its business. A free site, About.com generates revenue from advertisers trying to reach the 60 million people worldwide that visit the site monthly. In addition to About.com, the company operates the ConsumerSearch.com, UCompareHealthCare.com, and Caloriecount.about.com sites. The New York Times Company owns the About Group.
