Biography

New York native Lynn Ahrens is, along with partner Stephen Flaherty, one of the most successful writers of modern musical theater. After graduating from college with a degree in journalism, Ahrens spent several years in advertising, where she would have her first brush with the fine art of balancing theme with words and music as a writer for the popular Schoolhouse Rock series. Some of Ahrens' contributions to the series include "Interplanet Janet," "A Noun Is a Person, Place or Thing," and "Do the Circulation." After attending theater legend Lehman Engel's BMI Musical Theater Workshop she formed a creative partnership with Stephen Flaherty, with whom she would write Lucky Stiff, Once on This Island, and the 1996 Broadway smash Ragtime. Ahrens and Flaherty also wrote the songs for the popular 1997 animated feature Anastasia. ~ Wade Kergan, All Music Guide
