Eric Allendale
Eric Allendale (aka Eric Allendale Dubussion) (born 4 March 1936, Dominica, West Indies — died 23 August 2001) was a trombonist, songwriter and former band leader, as well as being a member of various jazz groups in England.
Musical career
In the early 1960s Allendale fronted his own group called The New Orleans Knights. A single, "Little Hans" / "Dominican Carnival" (Columbia 4773), was released in the UK in 1962. The B-side "Dominican Carnival" was written by Allendale. He also appeared in a film, a television programme and a TV commercial. Also, during the 1960s, he was a member of some well known English jazz groups.
In 1967 he became a member of the English soul group, The Foundations. Some of The Foundations' songs were written by Allendale, including the minor hit "Born To Live, Born To Die". Other songs he wrote include "(We Are) Happy People" and "I Can Feel It". [1]
Another composition by Allendale, "Solomon Grundy", which appeared on the album, Digging The Foundations, was covered by Pye labelmates Pickettywitch [2], and a Hong Kong based beat group, Danny Diaz & The Checkmates.
Later Years
In later years Allendale taught music to students in Zambia. He died on 23 August 2001.
