Deep in the heart of the North American continent lie untapped natural gas deposits, and American Oil & Gas is searching for them. The exploration and production company is focusing its efforts on the Rocky Mountains, a region with one of the largest underdeveloped natural gas fields in the US (the Bakken Shale formation). American Oil & Gas in 2009 reported that it had estimated proved reserves of about 64,420 barrels of oil, and 645.3 million cu. ft. of natural gas. The company is developing its position in the Bakken and Three Forks plays in the Williston Basin in North Dakota. In 2010 American Oil & Gas was acquired by Hess in a $450-million stock deal that grew Hess' Bakken holdings.
