The Amerrique Mountains (Spanish: Serranías Amerrique, Cordillera de Amerrisque) are a small mountain range in the central spine of Nicaragua, the Cordillera Chontaleña, separating Lake Nicaragua from the Mosquito Coast. The mountains include Oluma and the Pico de Santa Rosa de Amerrisque, the town of Juigalpa, Chontales, which sits at their feet, and are the source of the Siquia River—a tributary of the Escondido River—and the gold of the Mosquito Coast.
It is possible that the Amerrique Mountains are the source of the word America, which was later ascribed to Amerigo Vespucci.
