Anaxarchus

(4th c. BC) A follower of Democritus and teacher of Pyrrho. He accompanied Alexander the Great on his travels to the east, and was greatly esteemed by him. It is he whom Pyrrho is supposed not to have recognized, having trained himself to a sceptical distrust of the senses, when Anaxarchus was floundering in a bog.
