two little girls on a birthday party

Whether you are planning a party for a child or adult, coming up with the perfect idea is frequently difficult and stressful. Eliminate stress and focus on the birthday fun with these birthday ideas.

Girl's party ideas

First and foremost, talk to your girl to learn what she is interested in having for her party. It does you no good to plan the perfect princess birthday party and then learn that she wanted mermaids! Some of the most popular themes today are Disney princesses, Hello Kitty, American Idol, Dora the Explorer and luau. Once you pick the party theme, arrange fun games and simple prizes that match the theme. Basic games like beanbag toss, pin the tail on the donkey and treasurer/scavenger hunts are easily adapted to fit any theme. Instead of pinning the tail on the donkey, you can pin the tiara on the princess or the lei on the hula dancer. Scavenger and treasure hunts quickly take on the theme by picking the correct prizes or objects. If you want to go all out, add on a specialty game such as karaoke. Also, make sure to get everyone a favor that matches the theme. For example, get every girl a lei or a tiara.

Boy's party ideas

Just as with a girl, make sure to communicate with your boy to find out what theme he wants. Transformers, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Batman and Spiderman are just a few of the most popular boy's party themes. Depending on their age, boys are less inclined to do crafts or play party games than girls. However, boys do like basic crafts like making a pirate sword or pirate hat they can then use when playing. Make sure to choose active games that keep the children engaged. For example, you can easily modify a backyard croquet set by printing out or purchasing themed shapes and taping them to the wickets. You can also try a game like indoor baseball. Boys like prizes just as much as girls, so make sure to get everyone fun, party-themed favors.

Always communicate with your child, boy or girl, to find out what themed party is best before you buy all the accessories!

Adult party ideas

Adult parties vary a lot depending on the age and personality of the birthday man or woman. Of course, the most popular adult birthday parties are for milestone birthdays like 40, 50 and 60. When someone turns 40, it is customary to have a mourning-themed birthday party with all-black decorations. Many people even decorate with fake gravestones that say things like "over the hill." While this is a funny choice for 40, or maybe even 50, this theme is distasteful for older adults. For most people over 50, a basic, traditional party with some bright colors should suffice. For younger adults, themed parties are still an option. If the party-goers are a close-knit group, you could try something creative like an everything but clothes party where the guests are forced to wear creative clothing that are made from non-clothing items. However, in order to do a party like this, you must make sure everyone invited is comfortable with the idea.

Whether you are planning a party for a boy, girl or adult, these birthday party tips should give you some good ideas and reduce your stress level.
