Childhood
Born in Moscow in 1984, Katina is the eldest of three children, and the only daughter of Sergey Katin, a renowned Russian pop music author, and Inessa Katina. Her younger, half sister Katya has a different father and her half brother Ivan has a different mother. She was raised religious and is a practicing Russian Orthodox Christian.
In 1992 she joined the famous Russian children's ensemble "Avenue". She was part of it for three years, and at age 11 was selected for "Neposedi", the most popular and prestigious children's chorus at the time.
Lena's hobbies include artistic gymnastics, ballroom dancing, figure skating, swimming and horseback-riding. She is also a skilled pianist and also enjoys reading, especially romance novels.
She stated in a 2006 Telehit interview that she used to listen to artists such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd when she was younger.[1]
Career
Katina was the first to be chosen by Ivan Shapovalov for the t.A.T.u. project. Over the duration of the groups career Lena has managed to keep a low profile on her personal life compared to band member Yulia. Since Yulia's throat problems Lena has taken most of the lead roles on records and taken many of the higher parts.
It has been confirmed by the official t.A.T.u. website that Lena is to undertake a solo career under the guidance and management of the T.A. Music label. She will consult with the band members (excluding Yulia) in Los Angeles in the coming months to assemble a collection of demos. The new project will be announced in the middle of 2009 with an album expected in late 2009 or early 2010.[2]
