Faxon is a town in Comanche County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 134 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Lawton, Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Faxon is located at 34°27′30″N 98°34′47″W / 34.45833°N 98.57972°W / 34.45833; -98.57972 (34.458327, -98.579721)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²), all of it land.

It is home to such families as the Wyatts, the Musgroves, the Burks, and the Bedfords to name a few. When driving down state route 36, if you blink, you may miss Faxon as the modern day seems to have forgotten the small farming town. The elementary school is now abandoned and the hotel is a decaying corpse of stone blocks and iron wagon wheels. However, the U.S. Post Office still ensures Faxon doesn't fall off the map entirely.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 134 people, 52 households, and 37 families residing in the town. The population density was 517.1 people per square mile (199.0/km²). There were 65 housing units at an average density of 250.8/sq mi (96.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 86.57% White, 5.22% Native American, 1.49% Asian, 2.24% from other races, and 4.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.46% of the population.

There were 52 households out of which 36.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.5% were married couples living together, 3.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.8% were non-families. 26.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.14.

In the town the population was spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 103.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $25,000, and the median income for a family was $31,250. Males had a median income of $30,833 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,630. There were 15.4% of families and 13.8% of the population living below the poverty line, including 13.2% of under eighteens and 5.9% of those over 64.
