Black gold on the deep blue brings in the green for General Maritime. A leading operator of midsized tankers, the company transports crude oil and refined petroleum products, mainly in the Atlantic Basin but also in the Black Sea. Its fleet of more than 30 double-hull tankers includes Aframax and Suezmax vessels, and some Panamax, Handymax, and Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), with an overall capacity of about 5.6 million deadweight tons (DWT). General Maritime deploys its vessels both on the spot market (short term/single voyage) and under long-term charter. Customers have included major oil companies Chevron, CITGO, ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil, and Lukoil.
