The company is one of the largest tax return preparers in the US, where it has approximately 11,000 company-owned and franchised retail locations. It has another 1,700 locations in Canada and Australia. It serves more than 24 million tax customers in all. The company also provides retail banking through H&R Block Bank and publishes a line of do-it-yourself tax-preparation software. In 2011 the company sold its interest in RSM McGladrey, which performs accounting, consulting, and tax planning for midsized companies, to McGladrey & Pullen. It originally acquired RSM McGladrey from the accounting firm in 1999.
