Canadian family of artists of British birth. The brothers (1) Robert Harris and (2) William Critchlow Harris moved with their family to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, in 1856. Robert pursued a career as a portrait painter, working in Europe and Canada. William Critchlow practised as an architect in Canada, mainly in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. The careers of the two brothers rarely coincided, one exception being All Souls Chapel (1888) in Charlottetown, a characteristic Gothic Revival work designed by William Critchlow and decorated with 18 paintings by Robert.
