Harry Winston Diamond Corp. holds a Canadian diamond in the rough. It owns a 40% stake in the Diavik diamond mines, located in one of the world's richest diamond-bearing deposits. Diavik Diamond Mines, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto, owns 60% and operates the mine. The Diavik mine, which began production in 2003, has a life cycle of more than 20 years; its peak production hit more than 10 million carats annually. The company, called Aber Diamond until 2007, also owns jewelry and watch retailer Harry Winston Inc., which makes up its luxury brand (retail) segment. It includes a global network of sales salons for jewelry and wholesale operations for watches. Harry Winston also supplies Tiffany & Co. with diamonds.
