Health Grades (which does business as HealthGrades) takes the health care industry to school. The company offers report cards on hospitals, physicians, nursing homes, home health agencies, and other health care providers. It sells the quality and patient safety information to a number of constituencies, including consumers, employers, and insurance companies. Hospitals themselves represent its biggest customer base, with highly rated providers typically license HealthGrades' ratings and trademarks to use in their marketing campaigns. They also come to the company for quality improvement consulting. HealthGrades was taken private by Vestar Capital Partners in 2010.
