Style of exotic orientalizing architecture that was part of the eclecticism associated with the C18 cult of the Picturesque. One of its earliest manifestations was the Hindoo Gothick façade of Guildhall, London (1788–9), by Dance. The Hindoo or Indian style gained momentum with the publication of the various views of India by Hodges and the Daniells. Sezincote, Glos. (c.1805), a country-house by S. P. Cockerell, is perhaps the finest example of the style.
