Forget Mothra, Godzilla, and King Kong: IMAX gives new meaning to the term "monster vision." The company makes and leases projection and sound systems for some 520 giant-screen IMAX theaters in some 45 countries. Screens reach heights of up to 80 feet. About 400 of the theaters are located in commercial multiplex theaters, while the rest are in museums and science centers. All are licensed to use the IMAX name; operators pay maintenance and royalty fees to IMAX. The company also produces special-format films, such as "Under the Sea 3D", which are shown on its projection systems. IMAX's proprietary digital-remastering technology IMAX DMR reformats standard 35mm films into the giant-screen IMAX format.
