Oil and gas has the sweet smell of success for McMoRan Exploration. Operating in the Gulf of Mexico and on the Gulf Coast, in 2010 McMoRan Exploration reported proved reserves of about 279.8 billion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent (about 69% in the form of natural gas). The company owns or has stakes in more than 450 oil and gas leases in the Gulf of Mexico and onshore Louisiana and Texas covering about 880,000 gross acres.
