Mina (Verdi: Aroldo). Soprano. Daughter of Egberto and wife of the Crusader knight, Aroldo. While her husband is fighting in the wars, she has an affair with a soldier, Godvino. Her father prevents her confessing her adultery to Aroldo and himself kills Godvino. When the whole story comes to light, Aroldo divorces Mina and goes into exile, living in a primitive hut in Scotland. There the outlawed Mina finds him on her wanderings and the two are reconciled. Created (1857) by Marcellina Lotti. See also Lina.
