(National Information Standards Organization, Baltimore, MD, www.niso.org) A non-profit organization founded in 1939 that deals with bibliographic and related information standards. NISO represents the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) internationally in the International Organization for Standardization's technical committee for information and documentation, which is why NISO standards have ANSI/NISO designations.
