Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

In the UK, an area, supervised by the relevant local authority, in which development is very carefully considered so that the beauty of the landscape is not diminished. 6% of England and Wales is covered by AONBs. The Countryside and Rights of Way Act, 2000, empowers local authorities to establish a Conservation Board for their own AONB, in order to conserve and enhance the AONB and increase public understanding, and enjoyment, of its special qualities.
