1. Michigan: settled in 1828 and named after Hezekiah Niles, the Baltimore publisher of the Niles' Weekly Register.
2. Ohio: settled in 1806 as the township of Heaton's Furnace, it was renamed Nilestown in 1834 after Hezekiah Niles. The name was shortened in 1843.
