Perrysburg is a city in Wood County, Ohio, United States, along the Maumee River. The population was 16,945 at the 2000
census. If combined with the adjacent Perrysburg Township,
it would have a total population of 30,558 making it the most populous city in Wood County. It is a suburb of Toledo.
History
Fort Meigs was built in February of 1813 by General William Henry Harrison).
It was named Fort Meigs in honor of Ohio's fourth governor. Fort Meigs was constructed on a bluff above the Maumee River, and
created from a design by army engineer Captain Eleazer D. Wood, for whom the county would be named.
A cholera epidemic of 1854 decimated the population and the town literally closed down for two months in that summer. More
than 100 people perished.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 16,945 people, 6,592 households, and 4,561 families residing
in the city. The population density was 733.5/km² (1,899.2/mi²). There were 6,964
housing units at an average density of 301.4/km² (780.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.34% White, 1.03% African American, 0.10% Native American, 1.77% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.05% of the population.
There were 6,592 households out of which 38.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.1% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% were
non-families. 27.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or
older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.18.
In the city the population was spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from
45 to 64, and 13.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males.
For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $26,237, and the median income for a family was $37,651. Males had a median
income of $56,496 versus $31,401 for females. The per capita income for the city was
$29,652. About 1.5% of families and 2.8% of the population were below the poverty
line, including 1.7% of those under age 18 and 8.1% of those age 65 or over.
Cultural
Islamic Center of Greater Toledo
Perrysburg is home to the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo. Established in the 1950s, the
organization is the third mosque in America. The current structure, built over the period 1980-1983, is the first mosque in North
America to use classic Islamic architecture.
