Pinedale is a town in and the county seat of Sublette County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 1,412 at the 2000 census. Pinedale is an important outfitting town and a
gateway to the Wind River Mountains. The mayor is Stephen Smith.
Geography
Pinedale is located at 42°51′58″N, 109°51′53″W (42.866162,
-109.864622)1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area
of 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²), all land.
Pine Creek flows from nearby Fremont Lake through the town on its way to the Green
River.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 1,412 people, 582 households, and 368 families residing in
the town. The population density was 383.9/km² (996.5/mi²). There were 718 housing
units at an average density of 195.2/km² (506.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 96.95% White, 0.35% African American, 0.71% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.49% of the population.
There were 582 households out of which 32.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.6% were
non-families. 30.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or
older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.89.
In the town the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from
45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 100.0 males.
For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $35,188, and the median income for a family was $40,880. Males had a median
income of $31,976 versus $22,143 for females. The per capita income for the town was
$20,441. About 7.8% of families and 8.9% of the population were below the poverty
line, including 5.5% of those under age 18 and 10.4% of those age 65 or over.
