It sounds like the switch assembly in the steering col. is defective. It is part of the directional handle. It is not a big job to take on by yourself. You must be prepared to take a loss though if it is not the problem as electrical parts cannot be returned. I am pretty confident that is the problem.

You could simply use a dispenser that automatically dispenses arrows when monsters stand on a pressure plate, but also monsters will not spawn in areas with torches. hope it helps
