Just had the same issue.....it is quite possible your water pump. try this look at the fan located near the belts. If it moves when you tug it, then it is definetly your water pump. But before you dive in to replace the water pump or the alternator, first remove the serpentine belt idler located under the alternator. Find an auto parts store that carries bearings (About $13.00 to $15.00) and have them press a new bearing into the idler housing. Re-install and test engine for high-pitched noise. If noise is gone, you just saved yourself a lot of time and money. A replacement alternator would have cost about $200.00 from a parts store and maybe $300.00 from a dealer. If you try to buy a replacement bearing from a dealer they will offer you a complete idler assembly for around $50.00 and you have to remove the alternator to replace the idler assembly. Of course if the noise doesn't go away, then you are out only $13.00 and have to replace the water pump or alternator anyway. Personally, I would replace the alternator next because it's easier to get to than the water pump. If that doesn't get rid of the noise, you can take it back and get the water pump. I just went through this with my 05 TB. The idler was the problem.

How do you replace the alternator in 94 intrepid?

Gee, which engine do you have? a 3.3L the alternator is on the top, and totally easy to get to. a 3.5 is lower and harder to get to... What are you talking about? The 3.5L is very easy to get to--Its near the top as well.

Does a car heater blower on high use more gas?

Yes it does. When the battery uses power the alternator has to charge the battery and it becomes harder to turn when more electricity is required. When you have the fan on high it essentially makes the alternator harder to turn so it does use more gas. It may be an incremental amount but it is more.

What makes a brand new one week old alternator go bad?

If your battery is not fully functioning and needs to be replaced, it can make the alternator work harder. This could cause a brand new alternator to go bad. Check your battery, if the battery is not the issue, return the alternator, it should have a warranty on it for at least the first 30 days.

Why Is Brass Harder Than Copper?

Brass is harder because it is an alloy of copper with tin.

Why is there a loud squealing noise from the engine during cold starts as well as accelerating on a 1995 Mazda MPV?

It's probably the belt slipping. Check for belt tension. When an engine first starts the alternator works harder to recharge the battery. During that time, the alternator is harder to turn and if the belt isn't tight enough there can be some slipping between the belt and the pulley.

Why does using electrics in a car increase fuel consumption?

It causes the alternator to work harder to keep the battery charged. The engine spins the alternator and that requires the engine to work harder using more fuel. But, although that is very true, the amount of extra fuel you will use is negligible. Enjoy the electronics as the extra fuel used is so small as to be a non-issue.

Does using electrical power in your car like seat heaters use more gas?

Yes, any extra electrical load will cause the alternator to work harder which will cause the engine to have to work harder which will use more gas.

If you constantly run your car with a dead battery will this hurt your alternator?

Yes, alternators are designed to maintain the battery, or recharge a battery that has been slightly discharged from starting the car. When the alternator is used to recharge a dead battery, it causes the alternator work harder and longer than it is designed for, causing it to overheat, thus causing damage to the alternator. A battery charger should be used instead. They are designed for charging dead batteries. After the battery is charged, let the alternator maintain the charge.

Is fishing better when is snows?

No, it is not because, the fish cannot move and are harder to reel in from the harder water.

Is an alternator affected by cold weather?

Nomally I would say no, the only thing that happens is the brushes or bearings contract and may spin a little harder but unless they are bad, an alternator actuallys runs hot. That is why there is like a fan blade on the front to keep the internals cool.
