there should be a rod that goes under the car from the shifter to the drivers side of the tranny it is called the shift cable if it is good and hooked up then check your neutral safety switch
Check your transmission.
check your crank gear it is worn out replace the gear and key
the top gear, which will include overdrive. It will be the first selection after neutral.
The cam gear is on top/ and the crank gear is on top. Both at 12:00.
A gear is stripped or a cable is broken
it is located behind the sift gear between the driver seat and the passenger seat
It allows you to manually shift the transmission when the selector is in the L position.
Put the crank shaft at TDC. There is a dot on one of the crank gear teeth. It should be pointing toward the cam gear. Put the cam gear on without the chain. Turn the cam until the hole in the cam gear is pointing toward the crank. In other words, the hole in the cam gear and the dot on the crank gear should be in line. Then simply remove cam gear and apply the chain. The computer does the fine timing. Nothing to adjust.
Shift linkage broken,or trans bad. OR axle came out, or broken.
It means Manual Mode. That is where the paddle shifters come in, + for upshift - for downshift
What year is your Malibu? In my 2001, I had to take it out part of the way (I assume you mean the face of the radio portion of the dash), and then put the key back in the ignition and put it in gear to move the gear shift in order to have room to get the base out.
the two dots on youre cam gear and crank gear line up together, like so : ,at there closest point
