Yes you can even if the wall is rusted out you can patch the wall by using a scrap piece of wall available from a pool shop cutting it so the the patch covers the hole at least 100mm all round then secure to the wall with stainless pop rivets (remember rivet from the inside) silicone around the patch so there are no sharp edges, replace the liner and your back in business.

I used galvanized steel and my advise is to use a fiberlass repair kit (sanded down for smoothness) for the poolside edges. I used standard nuts/bolts to secure the galvanized steel (1ftx1ft on both sides).

There are several sites on the web that have guides for the do-it-yourselfer. A link to one of them can be found below.

Go to your nearest pool store and ask them for a vinyl repair kit. They are pretty cheap. Bring a water sample with you. Most pool stores will test your water for free. When you get home with the kit, open it up. It will contain a piece of clear vinyl and some glue. Cut a piece of the patch material that will cover the hole and about an inch around it. Then put glue on one side of the patch, cover it completely then fold the patch in half. Go under the water to the hole. Unfold the patch and quickly push the patch down over the hole. Stand up and stand on the patch for a minute. If the hole is to big for the patch kit, you are going to need a new liner. Folding the patch in half keeps the water from getting to the glue.

The previous answer to this question is almost word for word what's printed on the box that this vinyl patch kit is sold in. (for $12.00 in my area...more than a tad over-priced!) The vinyl in this particular kit is very thin, and I wouldn't trust it for much more than a pin-sized hole. Better to ask your dealer to order a patch kit for you right from the manufacturer of your particular pool. The patch kit is certain to be a heavier grade vinyl that the "off the shelf" repair kit. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions exactly for best results. I also bought this kit and followed the steps outlined above. After five tries (I used all the vinyl in the repair kit) the patch would not adhere to the liner. As soon as I unfolded the patch under water, the adhesive turned white and lost its stickiness. I am wondering if this is because I use Baquacil instead of chlorine. The repair kit does say to not use soap, which is technically what Baquacil is. If anyone has insight into this, or another repair method, please let me know. I had two 1mm holes in the side of my pool. I tried the other methods and the decided to use a spare piece of pool plastic (was attached to the air inlet) and araldite (strong adhesive). I used the vinyl patch to reduce the water-flow from the inside ( the stickiness has gone so had to hold it), dried the surface and then stuck the araldite patch to the outside. I held for a few moments and it stopped the leak.

The hole has to be small to fix it this way. Pump the water down below the hole. Cut a piece of vinyl from an old liner or from a beach ball. Smear plastic cement (the kind used for PVC pipes and can be purchased at hardware stores) and glue the plastic to the hole. Let it dry. Fill pool up and see if it holds. Usually it does.

Just get a can of PVC cement. Use the brush from the can and put a glob of glue on it. With a swim mask, go down underwater with the brush only and apply the glue as fast as you can. the gle will harden quickly under water. Try taking deep breaths then let most of your air out before you go under. this will help you stay down to work on the hole without fighting yourself to stay down. Hold the glued place together for a few seconds so it will bond. You may want to use a vinyl patch. Just generously glue the Back of the patch before you go down and just take the patch, not the gle brush. Ask the pool supply store for a free old liner sample. That's what I did and it is a good size peice for multiple or large areas.

Probably not. You would at least have to stop water getting through the leak to the part where you intend to do the repair otherwise the water will just stop the patch from sticking. If its a small hole try putting a suction cup over it on the inside to stop the water.

Yes it can, I did it on a 24ft x 4ft pool. First drain the pool about 4" below the repair. Next remove the top pool frame rail above the tear to relieve the tension on the fabric. Then with a large needle and a roll of kevlar type fishing line such as fireline, sew the repair starting 1" before the tear to 1" after the tear spacing the stitches from 1/4" to 3/8" in between each other and go at least a 1/2" above and below the tear. Now you can put the top frame rail back in place, this may take two people. Then go to hardware store and ask for a large can of all purpose pvc, cpvc, glue, and a small paint brush. Now go back home and coat the stitches and tear with a good coating of glue using the brush in the glue can. Now while that is drying go to Kmart or Walmart and buy a small inflatable ring pool, it is important to get one of these because they are the same fabric and it will be the donor supplying the patch material. The small pools cost around $50.00. When you get back home, lay out the donor pool and cut two patches of the same size that will extend at least 4" beyond the tear in all directions. Now with a helper get inside the pool and apply the first patch to the inside of the pool over the tear by starting at one end and using the paint brush to apply the glue while your helper holds the patch in place and rolls it over the repair as you paint the glue on (the surfaces must stay dry and clean while you do this). After the patch is in place and fairly dry (about 5 minutes) start painting a strip of glue around the perimiter of the patch extending 1" on to the pool liner and 1" on to the patch. Next repeat the same exact steps on the out side of the pool. Give it about 3 hours to dry and cure and then you can begin refilling with water. Happy swimming. I developed this approach on my own because I couldn't find any info on these types of pools needing such a large repair. Everyone I spoke to including the manufacturer told me that the liner would need to be replaced. The tear in my pool was horizontal for 36" and vertical for 5" and encompassed the pump inlet port. I made this repair over two months ago and my six kids have been swimming in it ever since with no problems. The total cost of the repair for me was $62.79, the cost of a new liner would have been $599.00 plus shipping. I sure hope this helps some one else. And p.s. remove the inlet ports and drain the pool half way down before winter that is what caused my tear.

Can you install an inground pool above ground?

Apparently you can I spoke to some one who did this as he was not interested in the hassle of having to remove an in ground pool later on when he got sick of it. The method he used was quite simple. He used a 5' deep above ground pool with powder coat zincalume surround. I forgot the dimensions of the pool but it was pretty big one. # Dig a hole to the depth required he had a fall in the land so he left the top rail of the pool about 4" / 100mm above the ground on the up hill side and ended up about a 1' / 300mm above the ground on the down hill side # make sure the hole floor is level and then cover it in about 4" / 100mm of washed river sand. # Build the pool inside the hole. # install necessary Plumbing. # Fill the pool. # After the pool is full of water back fill the gap between the pool and the ground with a 10 to 1 mix of sand cement. He told that this lasted him 20 years at which time the liner needed replacing when he took the old liner out he found that the rest of the pool was still in top condition.

Why does the ground have to be level for above ground pools?

So that the water doesn't drain out of the pool and so the pool doesn't fall over. I agree with the answer above but I have a more detailed answer. In a round above ground pool the water puts even pressure on the pool walls, and if the ground is not level one side will get more pressure. The imbalance will cause the pool to collapse under the strain.

My above ground pool is uneven fix it with out draining it.?

I have a 15' above ground pool, when we installed the pool it was a little uneven (not even 1") now that the pool has been up for a while it has settled and now the side that was lower is off by about 3-4". How can I fix this without draining the whole pool?

What do you put under a small above ground pool to level it?

I just put up an above ground pool and we used sand to level the ground. To level the sand, we used one of those string levelers and tied it to stakes on each side of the pool area to make sure it was all level.

I know A guy that put one into the ground all the way. It was a powder coat zincalume above ground pool, What he did was. # Dug a hole big enough to set the pool up in. he had a big pool. # he set it up to have the pool sticking 6 inches out of the ground # set up the pool according to the instructions. # His land had a slight slope so the pool stuck out of the ground a little more on one side than the other. # filled it up with water # then back filed around the outside of the pool with a 10/1 sand cement mix. # Et Voila, 20 years later he had to replace the liner. and everything was still ion great condition.

im from gastonia and would to have an above ground pool. my property slants down would that cause a problem?

If you build up a level area to place your pool you will have no problems. If you place the pool on the ground the way it is your water level will only be as high as the lowest side of your pool.

Can you replace a shallow well pump with an above ground pool pump and will it have enough suction lift to lift the water 20ft?

Above ground pool pumps are made to sit at or below the water level, not to pull water up. If placed above the water level, or away from the pool-side they will not circulate the water properly and may not even prime. For your well, a better option is to go for an in-ground pool pump - or better still, purchase a pump made for your particular application.

What is the scum gutter of an above ground pool 18' by 18'?

I may be wrong but I doubt there is a scum gutter on above ground pools. There may be what is called a skimmer and that is sort of a hollow box like object at one side of the pool - usually located closer to the pool equipment side of the pool. When the pool pump is running you will be able to see water entering the box or skimmer. The purpose of the skimmer is to catch bugs, leaves, etc and to get the water back to the pump. It is part of the circulation system.
