A fake or fictitious name for example, an authors pen name, or a name that someone might use on the internet which is not their real name.

A pseudonym is a made-up name used by a person to conceal his/her identity. Most commonly associated with writers and are referred to as "pen names."

A famous example would be Samuel Langhorne Clemens who is more commonly known by his pseudonym Mark Twain.

A "psuedonym" is like an alternate name.

People may use pseudonyms for a variety of reasons. Some celebrities may use pseudonyms if their name could be easily confused with another famous person's name, and writers may use pseudonyms to hide their identity.

A username one uses on a website would be another example of a pseudonym. ---- 'Psuedo' is Greek for false and '-nym' means name, so Psuedonym means a false name, such as:

Alicia Keys - Alicia Augello Cook

Alan Alda - Alphonso D'Abruzzo

Billy Ocean - Leslie Charles

Bono - Paul Hewson

Cary Grant - Archibald Alexander Leach

Chaka Khan - Yvette Stevens

Charlie Sheen - Carlos Irwin Estevez

Cher - Cherilyn Sarkisian

Dean Martin - Dino Crocetti

Elton John - Reginald Kenneth Dwight

Jamie Foxx - Eric Bishop
