Toyota echos do not have spark plug wires they have coils which do not need
to be replaced unless they have broke
one of the nice things about echos
The Toyota echo does not have wires or a rotor, each spark plug has its own ignition coil (coil pack). So really, all you can do is change the spark plugs.
Don't fix them, replace them. Its an easy job, see related link.
Depends on the plugs. This model year came with Iridium plugs that are capable of lasting more than 100,000 miles. I used mine for 120,000 miles. If you replaced them, you should go by the recommendation of the manufacturer of the new plugs. Some are only good for 20,000 miles, the average might be 30,000-40,000 miles. If you notice a drop off in fuel economy or any type of engine performance problem or sometimes a check engine light related to the plugs, then you probably waited too long to replace them.
No, but its the best you can get in the market. Faster starts, prevents cold start wear in the winter, better throttle response, and fuel economy. The original equipment spark plugs for the 2000 Toyota echo were indeed iridium, and they do not need to be changed for 100,000+ miles. I definitely recommend using iridium plugs when you must replace the OEM plugs. You should be able to check with the maintenance manual that came with your car for more info. But no cars REQUIRE iridium plugs. In fact, none of the Toyota Echos after 2000 came with those amazing iridium plugs that the 2000 model had from the factory. Also note that you may not even be able to buy those plugs at all anymore, from what I understand they had a special extra wide gap. The replacement plugs may have a smaller gap, and even if iridium, they may not be intended to last for 100,000+ miles. Most Echo owners consider the Denso (Part #SK16R11) or NGK (Part #IFR5T11) Iridium plugs to be the best replacement for this vehicle and they can both last for 100,000+ miles like the original equipment plugs.
I had to pressed in by a garage . they did not last . I bought 2 from a junk yard no problems after 110k more miles i
15 ft/lb Remove the plastic cover on top of the engine. (4 bolts) You will see 4 modules connected to electric wires on top of the engine. Those are the ignition coils. They are bolted to the valve cover with a single bolt. Remove that bolt and unplug the connector (I did one at a time) to easily remove the module from the plug. You will see the plug down the hole. Use a 5/8 Inch spark plug socket and remove carefully, engine being cold. Aluminum heads have fragile plug threads. Replace with new plug which should normally be pregapped at .043 in (for Bosch Platinum plugs the gap is .032). Tighten snugly but don't use too much force. (torque wrench at 15 ft/lb) Replace coil module and reconnect wire and you are done. Don't forget engine cover. Note: The 2000 model echo came with special iridium spark plugs that do not have to be changed for at least 100,000 miles (I changed mine at 120,000). Most Echo owners consider the Denso (Part #SK16R11) or NGK (Part #IFR5T11) Iridium plugs to be a good replacement for this vehicle and they can both last for 100,000+ miles.
Step by step instructions can be found here: http://groups.msn.com/Sorensonbrian/sparkplugs.msnw First make sure you have right plugs for the year of your Echo. Apparently not all the same my dealer said. Remove the black plastic cover on top of the engine. (4 bolts) You will see 4 modules connected to electric wires on top of the engine. Echo and Yaris have chains, no need to replace unless there is a problem, they have been known to last over 400,000 miles.
take it to the Toyota dealership and ask them to replace it
On top of the engine, but you have to remove the cover to see them.
when it breaks
about $1500 AU
