How do you sort your iTunes playlist?

1) If you are looking to change the ordering of the songs within a playlist: First you must be sure that shuffle is off. If the shuffle feature is on, you will not be able to rearrange your tracks. Once shuffle is off, simply select the song you would like to move and drag it to the desired position. A black line will serve as the indicator for the new position of the song as you drag it up or down the list.

2) if you are looking to move the songs into a playlist: If the playlist does not exist, you will have to make one first. To move songs into a playlist, you may select the songs right-click and hover over add to playlist. You may then select the playlist you would like. Alternatively, you can drag the selected songs over the playlist on the list to the left.

Hi, I am new to Wikianswers and I thought I would try and help people who are experiencing the same frustrations as I am with manipulating songs within an iTunes playlist. Previously, I have been able to move and rearrange songs freely within my playlist but after adding more songs to an existing playlist, found that I could no longer do this. I have tried all other suggestions on Google but have found that this has worked for me and may for you as well.

My Solution:

In Itunes I clicked on the sort arrow in the top left corner that contains the order number and this must have released the lock on the song order or something similar because now I can drag each song and position it wherever I want.

When right clicking on the sort arrow, untick all the sort categories, then you are free to move your tunes as you want. On a PC.

Must be in Playlist and here's the easiest way:

Click on Controls menu

Click on Shuffle

Click on Turn Off Shuffle

Then click on the song you wish to move and drag to the position you want it.

Done!

If Shuffle doesn't work, try this solution:

Ok, Turning the shuffle on/off did not work for me. The person who mentioned clicking on the sort arrow in the top left corner was on the right track but forgot to mention that it isn't in the menu. It is actually a little farther down the screen & it is the tiny little box with the up/down arrow that sits right above the track numbers in the playlist next to "Name", "Artist", Etc.

Note: Sometimes the up/down arrow disappears so you may have to click on the box in order to see the arrow. You should then be able to move the tracks anywhere you want to.

It'd be nice if Itunes would just tell us these things in the help section but I guess that would be way too easy.

If you mean by album, artist, genre etc...all you have to do is click on the top bar that says "Name,Artist, Album, Genre, Rating, Play Count, Last Played" Which ever one you want them to be listed by just click on it and it should be blue.

Highlight the songs that you want in your playlist. Right click on them and it should come up with something saying 'Add to playlist' go to the arrow and there should be all of your playlists there. Just click on one of them.

Use the album names, play count, artists, or genre. there are many categories in itunes, and you can edit them seperately in the songs drop down menu (right clicking on a song or album) To sort music by album, artists, or any category simply click on the category when itunes is in list view. you can change views by clicking the three buttons in the upper hand right corner next to the search bar.

You can also create playlists by clicking File -> new playlist. add songs by drag and drop or by the dropdown menu.

all you do is click the artist tab above your music either in your library or in your playlists.
