Iodine solution is an efficient indicator for starch. It will go from a light brown colour to a black colour if starch is present and will stay light brown if no starch is present.

Hope this Helps!

An indicator is a chemical which changes color in a narrow pH range.

It is most commonly used in a process called titration, in which an acid is added to a base, or vise versa.

The indicator is used to tell you when a certain point in the titration process is reached. This point can vary depending on the titration being carried out.

Example: A 100mL solution of 0.1 Molarity NaOH is being titrated with a 0.1 Molarity HCl solution. When 100mL of HCl are added, the pH of the solution will equal 7. Bromthymol Blue, an indicator which changes color in the 6-8 pH range is used in this case, because we can see when the pH is equal to 7.
