∙ 14y agoThe poem is open to interpretation, of course, but the most simple way to interpret it is as a statement on human hubris in the face of the much greater process, N/nature. It is also an allusion to the reign of Ramses II in Egypt and surrounding areas.
EDIT: The poem can also be interpreted as a protest against the English government. At the time the poem was written the Statue of Ramses II was being brought to England, the poem could be implying that they are destroying the final remnants of a vast kingdom, and destroying the work of generations.

That is the message conveyed through the poem Ozymandias written by P.B.Shelley. It is a grave message, to convey which the poet has written a very short poem. Therefore each word has exceptional circumstancial gravity.
