I was eight and I watched some of it. It terrified me. I have a vague black and white image in my mind of boys and girls standing in a field and the rustling starts! Then the grass gets under their feet and they have to flee. I remember sitting on the floor in the dining room and half hiding under the legs of my dad's chair trying to get away from it. My parents didn't ban it. They banned Quatermass and the Pit, though. How could they show things like that in 1959 to children? Thank goodness Robin Hood and Sir Lancelot came along.

Yes - although I did not see all of it as my parrents 'banned' it as it was causing me to have nightmares! The opening sequence with the grass rustling sticks in my mind still.

The only information I have is:-

Transmitted: ITV, 06 January 1959 - 10 February 1959

Episodes/Length: 6 x 30m

Repeated: No. Format: Black & White

At the back of my mind I seem to recall 'dumb-bell' shaped spaceships associated with the programme - or does the mind cheat and these were in a completely diffferent programme !

Do any scripts or a novelisation exist ?

Chris Longhurst (19 June 2009)

I remember being very scared of it...

I seem to recall aliens taking over human beings... You could only detect them because they avoided any light. I also seem to recall the title music was Holst's Mars. I have to admit these are only the vaguest of memories and I could be mixing them up with other stories...

It amazes me that it was able to be screened to such a young audience...it was very scary and you're not alone to have had nightmares...Perhaps some Hollywood film company will revive the story and a new colour version will be made...perhaps...JM

I remember it as well, according to Wikipedia it was screened in 1959 so I was 9 and it terrified me too. We might think it strange that such a scary series was considered children's tv but consider most Fairy Tales with wolves eating grandmothers, witches eating children, wicked stepmothers poisoning their daughters etc etc so it was quite a normal genre. I'd love to see it again now but I'm guessing the tapes were all wiped as was the custom of the day.

I remember itΒ  but would have only been about 6 at the time. I seem to remember images of it wrapping round peoples ankles. I wore knee high socks for fear it might touch my legs.

Foreshadowing example in chapter 14 of Treasure Island?

I now felt for the first time the joy of exploration. The isle was uninhabited; my shipmates I had left behind, and nothing lived in front of me but dumb brutes and fowls. I turned hither and thither among the trees. Here and there were flowering plants, unknown to me; here and there I saw snakes, and one raised his head from a ledge of rock and hissed at me with a noise not unlike the spinning of a top. Little did I suppose that he was a deadly enemy, and that the noise was the famous rattle. It's on the first page of Chapter 14 (XIV)

What is n example of a literary element from breaking dawn?

Here is page 430 from Breaking Dawn. "I think it will be easier for you to...see for yourself. It's rather difficult to describe." I considered that. I knew there was a lot that I needed to see for myself before it would be real. I wasn't sure how much more I was ready for, so I changed the subject. "Why is Jacob still here?" I asked. "How can he stand it? Why should he?" my ringing boice trembled a little. "Why should he have to suffer more?" "Jacob isn't suffering," he said in a strange new tone. "Though I might be willing to change his condition," Edward added through his teeth. "Edward!" I hissed, yanking him to a stop (and feeling a little thrill of smugness that I was able to do it). "How can you say that?" Jacob has given up everything to protect us! What I've put him through-!" I cringed a the dim memory of shame and guilt. It seemed odd now that I had needed him so much then, That sense of absence without him near had vanished; it must have been a human weakness. "You'll see exactly haw I can say that," Edward muttered. "I promised him that I would let him explain, but I doubt you'll it much differently than I do. Of course, I'm often wrong about your thoughts, aren't I?" He pursed his lips and eyed me. "Explain what?" Edward shook his head. "I promised. Though I don't know if I really owe him anything at all anymore...." HIs teeth ground together. "Edward, I don't understand." Frustration and indignation took over my head. He stroked my cheek and then smiled gently when my face smoothed out in respnse, desire momentarily overruling annoyance. "It's harder than you make it look, I know. I remember." This dialouge was after Bella was changed into a Vampire and she went on her first Hunting trip.
