Do you mean a German Shepard or an actual dog used in the police services? Really it doesn't matter because either way it depends on the dog. German Shepards are known for being great with children and protecting them from danger but I know a German Shepard that is not good with kids. Dogs in the police services are trained to get along with any person, kid or not, but it still depends on the dog. The dog may tolerate kids but not let them play with them and may not like them. Just introduce them and see what happens. For the meeting tell the kids to not look into the dogs eyes and to hold out there hand for the dog to smell. If the dog skitters away, lips curl, growls, freezes up, the scruff, neck and upper shoulder hair, stands up, or the dog walks really stiffly then you need to be really careful and separate the kids from the dog and maybe your self too. If the dog is a puppy then everything is different! It is common for puppies to be afraid of kids so just keep the kids calm and tell them to be really gentle and to use a quiet voice so the puppy isn't frightened. Other puppies love kids and love their boisterousness. So you just have see. Good luck!

Mounted police dogs are used privately in their investigations.
labradors are preatty smart dogs. They make a great companian and are great guide dogs.
Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers are great large dogs with kids. they love to play and swim, also.
Because they are just 4 legged little kids with a great sense of curiosity .
Golden reviver dogs are great for kids. But they do shed. Bichon frise dogs are great too. They don't shed much but need a lot of grooming, if not groomed as much as needed they get very matted, and love kids and people. Though their they are sort of hard to house train. Hope this helps!
