Yes, babies do have lungs, though very small. The lungs on a baby are so different from an adult's lung.

No, they aren't. Not enough to breathe on their own. If your baby was born at 28 weeks, they would need help to breathe. Lungs are mature around 35 weeks.

Burst lungs in babies?

I am not really clear on the question, this can occur in premature babies for a variety of reasons. The Alveoli could not function properly and thus leak air into the the lung space. This rare condition is called Pneumothora. This happens because the underdeveloped lungs lack the slippery surface needed. Also due to the lungs not functioning correctly it is necessary that a breathing machine is used to force oxygen into the lungs and this can also cause the lungs to burst.

Why is it that 8th month babies are in more danger than 7th month babies?

hi, i onloy found this out with my second child due to planned c section, a babies lungs are full obviously not in use while inside you, but at 8 months their lungs fill up with fluid to aid them in maturing, if a baby is born at 7 months, the lungs are clear so has better chance of breathing alone than at 8 motnhs when lungs are full, its called wet lung from what i remember. but by the time they hit the 9 month and ready mark the lungs empty again ready for delivery and breathing oxygen when born. hope this helps x
