There are a lot of myths surrounding cane toads. * They will not give you warts. This is garbage. * They will not poison water they get in. They may make it dirty. * They will not poison you if you pick them up. However, cane toads are toxic. They secrete a white milky poison called bufotenin from the two enlarged paratoid glands behind their eyes. If you irritate a toad by poking at it or holding it for a long time, the poison will be excreted onto its skin. If you get the poison on your hands and get some of it into your mouth, it will make your mouth tingle and you will feel unwell. Large amounts of it cause vomiting, fainting, coma and death. There is enough poison in a toad to kill a dog or cat and probably a human, but they can't excrete enough of it to kill you. ALWAYS wash your hands with soap after handling toads. If you do that they cannot hurt you.
Yes. At all stages of the cane toad's life cycle, from eggs to tadpoles to adults, cane toads are poisonous to anything that tried to ingest them. The poison has been responsible for the deaths of many native Australian animals. Adult cane toads have venom-secreting poison glands on their shoulders.
Cane toads are voracious eaters. According to everything I have read about them they will eat anything they can fit into their mouths including other frogs, mice, bugs, baby birds, small lizards and other small critters. They grow very large, I believe the largest on record was 15 inches from nose to butt. They don't "do" much aside from walk or hop around or just sit there. One thing they will do is poison you, if you lick or try to eat them lol. They're huge toads and if nothing else they look very cool. They are an invasive species in North and South America and were originally brought in to control the population of specific bugs. Instead of doing what they were supposed to do they started to mate like crazy and the population exploded. The only thing that would make them a good pet is the fact that they're huge and look really cool. DO NOT let your other animals get to them as they are very poisonous and might die.
i heard some are poisonus
Cane toads (Bufo marinus) are extremely poisonous to humans and other animals, as are their tadpoles. You don't need to be bitten by one to be poisoned; simply touching the toad is sufficient to transfer its toxin, which is secreted by poison glands onto its skin.
They are considered a pest in many countries and, certainly in Australia, it is illegal, not to mention foolish, to keep them as pets.
The cane toad is not venomous, but it is poisonous. They have poison coming out of their skin, which is toxic to some animals and hazardous to humans.
