Usually mixtures, although some are compounds. If you want to consider things like gold, platinum, and copper nuggets and/or diamonds as "stones" they can also be elements (ignoring inclusions and impurities, which would make these too mixtures).

Some examples:

  1. mixtures - granite, basalt, sandstone, meteorite
  2. compounds - galena, fools gold, quartz, rock salt
  3. elements - gold nugget, platinum nugget, copper nugget, diamond

Yes, minerals aren't rocks, as rock are composed of one or more MINERALS, like Galena. A plain mineral is composed of one substance, like copper

It depends on what 'stone' you're talking about. Most rocks are made from minerals. So, stones might not really be 100% minerals, but minerals might have a percentage of the stone/rock.

Yes and no. Stone typically refers to larger pieces than rock does (e.g. building stone, grave stone, stone slab). Gravel is even smaller pieces. The materials are often the same.
