Bears are not afraid of campfires, the smoke from the fire makes them wary therefore they detour around the campsite. The smoke from the fire also masks the scent of humans or food, if bears smell food - they go for it!

Yes, they avoid people for the most part. Some have become accustomed to humans and the food they have around. This makes them dangerous because they will get into cars, cabins, and tents where humans leave food. If a human happens to be near they could be in trouble and get attacked. This is really true if there is a mother bear with a cub or two. It is better to keep a wide area between you and a bear.

Well, yes. All they know instinctively is that fire can burn, and no one wants themselves or their home to be burnt. Even if a wolf saw fire in a campsite, it could 'freak out' because it wouldn't know the fire couldn't escape and burn down ... everything. Unless fire was a famillir sight they got used to, which may even take a few generations, I'm pretty sure they would be.

Mountain lions are just as afraid of fire as any other animal. They are scared enough, but they wouldn't be terrified until you started jumping up and down and waving it in their face.
