It is said that gay males choose to pierce their right earlobe to make themselves identifiable, but you do not have to be gay to do this, and piercing your right ear will not "turn you gay"... if that is the concern.
In this day and age we don't define people by what they look like or where they wear jewellery. To do so in most civilized cultures would be considered profiling and highly rude behaviour.

∙ 14y agoYou need to quit assuming things about piercings, it's dangerous to your health. Piercings have no meaning, other than what they mean to the wearer. Assuming something about a person based on the clothing or jewellery they wear is not only rude it's presumptuous. Piercings are piercings nothing more nothing less.

∙ 13y agoWell there is no "gay" ear, that is urban legend. In this day and age people don't define themselves of there orientation by piercing a selected ear. Gays and Lesbians have there own means of defining who they are they don't need a specific piercing. In the early 70's it was gay males who pierced the right ear only, but now with the advent of the modern piercing movement to define ones self with a single piercing is pretty much pointless. With the want to be accepted by society, the idea of having a defining characteristic is almost socially "rude". You are who you are, you like what you like, a piercing defines the person for "who" they not "what" they are.

Both my brother and father have earrings in their left ears, and I assure you neither are gay! The handkerchief code states that a handkerchief in the right pocket means you are the "receiver" (gay bottom) but that the left side means you are the giver (gay top). Nowadays, all of the above is moot. More heterosexual men wear earrings than gay men. Now that the gay community is out and more accepted, using earrings to hint that one is gay is mostly obsolete.
