well your breakfast egg is not a chick. to have a chick a hen must get fertilized by a rooster. the egg will taste no different. then the egg is layed. sometimes a hen will sit on it for about a month coming out for some food a couple times a day. the hen will hourly rotate the eggs. then a chick will hatch! the stores do this a different way. they get the fertilized egg, and something called an incubator that heats the eggs. you can buy some auto rotators to rotate the eggs for you though.

The young pullet is just trying out her production capabilities and will often not lay perfect eggs on the first tries. It may take a week or longer for her body to make the needed adjustments. The eggs are edible.
