They can fly for a pretty long time because my cockatial flew away for 2 days and returned very tired and completely out of energy.

My cockatiel the day she ran away, flew around me doing circles trying to land on my shoulder but it was to windy and two days later I saw her in a tree and she flew away again. Then 4 hours later i saw my cockatiel flying circles near my house when I was playing football, and she landed on my shoulder took her home gave her some food and she took a very long nap.
