it depends what sound you like. But in my opinion steel strings don't have the best sound to them, the other plasticy ones have more of a clear sound to them and don't hurt your fingers as much. It depends more on the type of strings what sound it makes more than the guitar body.
It depends what you're playing. If your playing modern metal than you'll want a Jackson, ESP, Ibanez (RG series mostly) or Schector. For classic rock and alternative go with a Fender Telecaster. And if you play 80's metal or Arena rock, go with a Dean or a Jackson.
It is very difficult to say which instrument sounds the best. Because they are made with a variety of natural materials, they all vary in the sound they produce. The strings used can have an effect as well. Even the type of music being played can make a difference. You will have to try them and see! In general, a more expensive instrument will sound better, as the quality of the materials and craftsmanship are higher. But there are many inexpensive brands that sound as good as those that cost twice as much.
Its really more of an opinion type of question, if you're a beginner I suggest a concert sized Ukulele, they have a sound that is like the soprano, but more of a full sound.
no and even it you could the neck would be impossible to make.
