"Born Worker" by Gary Soto, is about a young man names José. Now José and his cousin Arnie come from very different back grounds. Jose was born to work and is known more than his own parents.Unfortunately one day when he returns from school he finds his cousin Arnie on his porch. Arnie tells José that they should start a business doing odd jobs for people. But what happens is José does all the work and Arnie just sits around and watches. Arnie originally wanted a 50-50 split for the money, but Jose wasn't dumb and was able to make a 70-30 split in his favor. One day José and Arnie were hired by an old man to clean his pool, so of course José does all the work while Arnie sits around and tans. But when the old man falls into the pool and cracks his head open Jose stays with him (even though Arnie wanted to steal his money and leave him to die). Once the news got around that someone has saved the old man Arnie jumps right in and says it was him, while José does nothing. Then Jose realizes something, so he climbs a telephone pole, like his dad, and watches it and realized exactly what his dad sees.
