Boyle's Law states that as the pressure of a gas increases as the volume decreases.

There are several ways to state this relationship.

  • P is proportional to 1/V. You might remember the shape of y=1/x curve from your mathematics class.
  • Rearranging. PV = k, where k is a constant.
  • The value of k is usually not calculated because if the values of P and V change then the product PV stays the same.
  • So Boyle's Law looks like this:
P1V1 = P2V2

When P changes so does V and vice versa.

for a fixed amount of gas at a fixed pressure, the relationship is inverse, meaning that when pressure goes up, volume goes down or vice versa. It implies any gas.

What does the the amplitude of sound wave represents?

A sound wave can be represented by changes in the average position of atoms, OR in changes in pressure, over time. The amplitude represents the maximum change in one of these.

What are constants in Algebra?

A constant is a value that never changes

What does oil represent?

Oil represents the physical remains of dead dinosaurs, after millions of years of chemical changes under extreme heat and pressure.

What is the difference between constants and variables?

A variable is a quantity which changes its value through out the program or its lifetime. But a constant is a quantity which does not change its value through out its life time. There are 5 basic constants.

Why atmospheric pressure changes as atmospheric depth changes?

atmospheric pressure changes as depth changes because the further down you go, the more pressure there is. in other words, the pressure increases as the atmosphere gets deeper. :3

How are constants and variables different?

Constants are values that remain constant and cannot be changed once they are assigned a value. Variables, on the other hand, can have different values assigned to them and their value can be changed throughout the program. Constants provide a fixed value, while variables provide flexibility and allow for changes in value.

What is changes in pressure?

Pressure is not a change, it is a characteristic.

Why does the height of the column in a barometer changes as atmospheric pressure changes?

As the atmospheric pressure changes, the force pushing on the surface of the liquid changes. Therefore, the height of the liquid in the tube increases as the atmospheric pressure increases.

Does the Viscosity changes with the temp and pressure?

The viscosity of a substance will change with both temperature and pressure. For liquids the changes induced by a change in temperature are usually more readily observed than the changes from pressure because liquids are only slightly compressible with pressure. In gasses, the changes in viscosity with pressure are much more easily demonstrated because gases are, almost by definition, quite compressible so that the density can be easily changed by either changes in pressure or changes in temperature.
