D & C 895 That inasmuch as any man drinketh wine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him.

6 And, behold, this should be wine, yea, pure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make.

7 And, again, strong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies.

Answer

Yes, of course we *can* drink alcohol, but as the user above noted, we are commanded not to.

The Word of Wisdom

Chapter 18

Anyone can drink alcohol, although why is beyond me. People probably lose about 20 or more IQ points when they're drunk. Alcohol was originally meant for external use. If something is meant for external use, you probably shouldn't ingest it.

We can't, and most of us don't, but a few do. I, for one, am HIGHLY against it, even though I'm only 13, but that doesn't make much of a difference.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe in following the "Word of Wisdom", which is a health code that was revealed from God to Joseph Smith. This health code prohibits the consumption of alcohol, and specifically states that alcohol is meant for cleaning purposes.

One must avoid alcohol to qualify for baptism and to qualify to hold leadership or teaching positions in the Church.

Mormons have never been formally told they are not allowed to drink caffeine. The myth arises from the 89th section of the Doctrine & Covenants where it says "And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly" (D&C 89:9).

Hot drinks is defined as coffee or tea. These are unhealthy because of their high caffeine content. The LDS religion has never taught that members should not drink caffeinated drinks. Some members of the church of stated there personal opinion to not drink caffeinated drinks, but this is not official church doctrine.

In short, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are not told they must abstain from caffeinated drinks other than coffee and tea. It is a personal choice whether they would like to drink cola drinks or not.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly called Mormons) has no official statement about caffeine. The "Word of Wisdom" (health code) prohibits "strong drinks", which church leaders have defined as alcohol, coffee, and most teas. Church leaders have also spoken about avoiding "harmful and addictive substances". They have also mentioned avoiding energy drinks.

It is up to the church member to decide how caffeine fits into these guidelines. Most members choose to avoid strongly caffeinated drinks and caffeine pills, but will eat chocolates with small amounts of caffeine.

(a cup of coffee has about 100 mg caffeine, a soda has about 40 mg, and an ounce of chocolate has about 5 mg caffeine.) For official information from the church regarding caffeine, energy drinks, and 'addictive substances', see the links below under "Related Links". Take it where?

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) can drink caffeine if they choose. Most Church members choose to follow the "Word of Wisdom", a health code that they believe was given to them by God. It prohibits the use of alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco, and illegal drugs as well as other 'harmful and addictive substances'. Some Mormons believe that caffeine is a 'harmful and addictive substance' and others do not. There is no official church doctrine or teaching about drinking caffeinated sodas, and it is a personal choice if a Mormon chooses to avoid them.

Mormons do try to take care of their bodies and eat healthy, because they believe that their bodies are gifts from God.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) follow a health code called the 'Word of Wisdom'. This code mentions nothing of caffiene, but modern church leaders have advised against using harmful and addictive substances. Whether or not caffeine is a harmful or addictive substance is up to the discretion of the church member. Some Mormons drink caffeine and some don't.
