Sliding glass doors can accumulate gunk and dirt after years of use and not getting the grooves cleaned out good. An option to make the door slide easier is to clean it good with soap and water. Dry it out and then apply a layer of Vaseline to the groove. This will make the door almost like new.

If you are starting dreads off I recommend using beeswax, or beeswax gel,or find a brand that you are comfortable with.
