I think it depends on who you know. I got my federal felony (nonviolent) at the age of 23, completed undergrad at the age of 27, got my MBA by the age of 29, (from good colleges) and cannot find meaningful employment. However, there could be a number of issues regarding this...I am black, have some good work experience but not substantial work experience, and perhaps I am not networking like I should. When I do network, people are afraid to refer me even though I only got one year of probation for my felony. I think that when I am honest on my application, it is easy to pass me over for an equally qualified candidate who does not have a felony. I am 31 as of now and have vowed to never give up. I have outstanding marketable skills, and will continue to build my resume with outstanding achievements. that is, by volunteering if I have to......doing some consulting for free to achieve measurable results...which builds credibility. Keep it up, friend, we've come too far to just lay on the floor and just die.....keep fighting.
Make sure that you are looking for the type of job where a lapse in integrity will not affect the employer. Teaching in public schools, financial corporations, or most medical fields may not be options. Auto repair, trades and such may be more open to you. You can also look into what states expunge your record after a time, which may help even though you cannot lie on an application. Definitely get some specific advice from successful ex-felons. Remember though, that once you find the right job fit and are the right person to fill it, there should not be any problem. If they can find someone who'll hire them, yes.
Actually as long as the felon is applying for a job that is not related to the crime that he/she is guilty of then there are laws to protect him or her from being discriminated against. There are a few states with these protective laws and Wisconsin happens to be one of them. It's called the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act. The law states that any person applying for a position has to be given equal chance unless the employer can prove in a court of law that the said job is related to the crime he/she was punished for. And if the employer does the applicant just has to go to this organization called the Department of workforce Development and tell them his/her case and they will decide if action is warranted. There are several cases where this has helped a felon gain employment.
If he has served the full term of his sentence and is not on parole or probation, yes. HOWEVER - if they are on parole or probation it would not be unusual for one of the conditions of their release to be that they not associate with known felons. THAT might prevent them from holding employment at a place where another convicted felon is employed.
You will need a lawyer and money to find out if you qualify for reinstatement of the right to bear arms.
If the occupation is not licensed by the state it is likely that you can work at that business IF you can find someone willing to employ you. Remember - as a convicted felon you will have certain constraints and restrictions placed upon you by the laws of the various states in which you might find yourself working.
