Yes, there is a process that can be pursued for expungement of Class C misdemeanors. The defendant must plead not guilty to pursue expungement, but the process is fairly difficult and there are no guarantees.

Below is an article about expungement.

Another View: You need not have pled 'not guilty' in order to qualify to petition for an expungement. Every states' law is different on this procedure but in many (all?) states you may petition for expungement even after having been found guilty - however, you must have completed the entire term of your sentence in order to even start the process.

ADDED: You need to ask about your state specifically. Some states do not allow expungement of convictions at all. Some only allow arrests to be expunged, and only when the arrest does not result in a conviction. Other states allow you to expunge the conviction upon completion of your sentence.

Depending upon the crime and the statutes governing eligibility for expunction of your particular state, yes, it might be. Keep in mind, however, convictions for some crimes (e.g.: manslaughter, homicide, sex offenses, etc) are usually never expungable.

Maybe but because of how discretionary expungement is you should not get your hopes up. Expungement is granted, in some situations, when a certain amount of time has passed and the individual has completed all the terms of his or her probation. I would suggest speaking with your attorney about filing the necessary paperwork with the court to see if this is an option for you. If it is, then it would be in your best interest to pursue it.

How long does a misdemeanor stay on your record in North Carolina?

In the state of North Carolina, a misdemeanor conviction stays on a person's record for life unless it is something that can be expunged. For instance, if a person is convicted of a larceny misdemeanor in North Carolina, they can request that the record be expunged 15 years after the date of the conviction, as long as they have had no other convictions during those 15 years. If the person was a minor when they were convicted, they may not have to wait 15 years to have it expunged. It is best to consult a lawyer on these kinds of issues.

How long does first offense simple misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia conviction stay on my record in Iowa?

I think 7 years. Above incorrect, It will stay on your record until after death, unless you get it sealed or expunged. Only juvenile cases are subject to sealing, and only a citation for public intoxication is expungeable in Iowa. "Only a citation for public intoxication is expungeable in Iowa." Not true. I received a citation for disorderly conduct when I was a stupid sophomore at Iowa. It was expunged from my record after 6 months of good behavior. To be clear, the charges weren't dropped. But six months after the conviction it was expunged.
