Certain types of scoliosis have genetic factors, some have no genetic input, and some are only from genetics. For example, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, which makes up about 80 percent of all cases of scoliosis, is generally from a combination of both environmental factors (i.e. posture) and genetic predisposition.

If it is a recessive trait, then yes. If the dominant trait is marked ' S ' and Scoliosis is marked as ' s ' then this cross would mask the trait.

Can hole in the heart skip a generation and be the cause of down syndrome in a grandchild?

can not be passed from generation to generation

Does hemophilia skip a generation?

Haemophilia is a sex-linked recessive disorder - which means it can skip a generation, but only if it is carried in the female line.A female can be a carrier of haemophilia, but a male cannot. This is because males only have one X chromosome, so if they have a defective X they will have the disorder. If a father has haemophilia, all of his daughters will also have haemophilia.

When would you expect mutations to be passed to offspring and when would you not?

Wow, many different aspects to look at here. One big one is if it is in every generation or not. If so, then you have a dominant mutation that will show in every individual with an allele for that gene. If it seems to skip generations then you have a recessive mutation. Basically to answer this question you need to look at your family tree and determine what is going on and if every generation has it, they will have it. If your generation has it, they won't.

Why are recessive disorders more common than dominant disorders?

dominant traits show up in the first generation so any disorders have a 50% percent chance of showing up in offspring. recessive traits skip a generation therefore any diseases would have on a 25% chance.

It is possible to have multiple sets of multiples, and giving birth to multiples can also skip a generation. Hyper ovulation (the tendency to release multiple eggs during ovulation, increasing the chances of conceiving fraternal twins) is a factor in giving birth to twins.
